I’ve been doing some yoga in the morning every day for a few weeks now. I never thought I’d even enjoy yoga so the fact that these exercises have become a routine for me is a bit of a surprise! It’s funny because every morning, I wake up thinking that I just don’t feel like doing yoga – and then, I do it anyway. And I’ve noticed that I’ve been feeling better because of it. So, some people have asked me what poses I do and I thought the best way to share it would be to write up an article on it.
I do all of these as soon as I wake up in the morning, even before having breakfast. At first, it was only a 20 minute routine but now, I can hold positions for longer so it’s about 30 to 35 minutes. I’m linking each exercise to a page with a demonstration of it, or with more info.
1. Pelvic Tilts
2. The Bridge
3. The Cobra
(You can do this one with your arms further away from your chest so you can lift yourself up)
4. The Cat
5. The Child
7. The Tree
This is the one that my physiotherapist has recommended to me recently. It’s the pose I’m struggling with the most right now!
Do you have a morning exercise routine of your own? If so, what’s your routine like?

I do
Well to be honest I moved my morning exrcise and it’s now an evening one cause I have to wake up at 5am to go to work and I can’t imagine waking up even earlier in order to do my daily routine. I mostly have to do push up and some exercise for flexibility as those are the ones I mostly need for Bujutsu Kai that I practice
Certainly makes for a long day.. I can’t even imagine waking up at 5am!
What flexibility exercises do you do?
I’m glad you mention side plank. That is one of the best poses for the core and arms. Yoga guru Leeann Carey has a free yoga video that breaks down Vasisthasana. Thought your readers might want to take a look: http://planetyoga.com/yoga-blogs/index.php/free-yoga-video-side-plank-pose/
