…of the day: a little bit of joy

Posted on Mar 19, 2011 in ... of the day | 1 comment

I was supposed to return to this blog in March. Now I’m just accepting that plans change: new opportunities come up, new plans replace old plans, old priorities aren’t so important anymore. Actually, that’s one of the reasons why I’ve also neglected my 101 in 1001 list. A friend has suggested that I review it, update it and just go ahead and replace items that are no longer interesting to me. Makes sense and that’s what I’ll do. I’ll be back. To be honest, I’m going to have to sit down and plan an editorial calendar for this blog. Working...

…of the day: Breakfast up North

Posted on Mar 9, 2011 in ... of the day | 3 comments

I spent a week up north last week and heard my Dad get up and bring food into the garage.  I wondered what he was up to, so I slipped on his slippers (been doing that since I was a kid) and snuck in with my camera.  Oh yes, best breakfast ever.

…of the day: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

If there’s a song that reminds me a lot about my youth, it’s gotta be “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”.  I remember singing it with my Dad and my grandmother and listening to it over and over and over again.  It’s been a rough week, a tough day and tonight, I came home and listened to various versions of this song that I’ve loved for so long! (Note: I’ve decided to combine my pick for my Books of 2010 series with the February book giveaway.. that’s coming soon!) So, check out these videos for some of my favourite versions of Swing Low, Sweet...

I use Grooveshark A LOT.  It’s the best way to discover new music (especially since Pandora no longer works in Canada).  One day, I entered random words in a Grooveshark search and assembled a gigantic random playlist.  When I work from home, I play it and end up “favouriting” the songs I love the most. I thought I’d share some of the new music I’ve been discovering as of late: Ratatat: I think these guys only do instrumentals but it’s pretty awesome! Magyar Posse:  I love this group’s work!  Very intense instrumentals. Daedelus: Great, great,...

…of the day: simon’s cat!

Posted on Dec 11, 2010 in ... of the day | 0 comments

There an endless amount of cat videos out there, but there aren’t very many good animated versions out there… except for the Simon’s Cat series!  The animator is incredibly talented – you can tell that he’s been living with a cat for quite a while and that he’s observed its behaviour for a while.  Everything from the way the tail moves to the chattering of the teeth when the cat spots a bug is done so brilliantly well! I share with you one of my favourites of the series: Happy Caturday! ...

…of the day: the joy of giving things away

I haven’t had the chance to talk much about one of my latest projects.  It’s a website for the film and tv industry in Ottawa, Ontario.  I started it because I found it really hard to find information in one central place.  So I figured, why not?  Oh, and just to be cute, I decided to work on an industry directory – and all of the listings will be provided for free.  Why?  Because I can.  And I believe that this kind of stuff should be free. Since I started the site, I’ve met some interesting people and the word is spreading around.  I’m getting press...
