…of the day: websites I visit frequently
It’s amazing how little I have to write about now that my average weekday involves eating, sleeping, working from home, reading, light exercise and the occasional film. When your mind is wholly preoccupied with just getting the basic things done on a daily basis (work, medical tests, pain management), you just don’t even think about anything else. So, since I don’t have much to say at the moment, I thought I’d share with you some of the websites that I visit on a regular basis (other than Facebook, Google and YouTube)… and other than shopping websites like...
Read MoreDear arts-related and non profit websites: why do you suck?
Why do artists suck so much at marketing themselves? More importantly, why do arts-related non-profits suck at marketing themselves, too? I’m asking because I’ve had enough. While researching ideas for my 101 in 1001 list, I ended up browsing the web for various arts organizations that I might want to volunteer with or work with in the future. Instead of finding well organized and updated websites, I found sites that made me want to yell out loud and throw my computer against the wall. It’s painful. Visiting artist or arts-related websites is a fucking...
Read MoreThe Age of Gadgetry
“I must have it”. Whenever I hear this, I always wonder what it is that the person has to have and most of the time, it’s some sort of gadget. Often, it’s a gadget made by Apple. I saw a great quote today about utility and luxury and that Apple products mostly exist as luxury items (Dell exists for utilitarian purposes!). I also read that the new Apple iPad is likely going to kill off the Kindle. For those of you who aren’t familiar with all of this, the Kindle is an e-reading device. Essentially, you can read hundreds of electronic books on this...
Read More…of the day: some news and photos
Let’s start with some site news: I now have a local installation of WordPress on my computer with server et al. This means that I’ll have the power to make changes to my site and more or less preview them before actually changing anything “live”. For a PHP newbie, this is going to be super helpful for me to learn how to add, remove or modify code (and test it) without risking a major code fail. My site looks sad at this moment. I am known to be creative but I am not a designer at all! I’d love to hire someone to just do it all for me but that would be too...
Read MoreDon’t let your ex read this!
I have a friend. Let’s call her “Jane”. Last night, I texted Jane and received a text back from her phone stating something along the lines of “Jane forgot her phone. This is her ex.” Shocked by the breach of privacy, I texted back with a message saying that I didn’t Jane would appreciate the ex reading her notes and replying to them! The reply I got was an assurance it isn’t an issue because they’re close. Ha! Being close to someone doesn’t negate one’s responsibility to respect an individual’s privacy: my...
