Once upon a scattered brain…

What will I write about today? There’s been no shortage of interesting events in my life.  I’ve read a lot of interesting articles, too.  I could talk about them, but I don’t feel like it. Instead, I’d rather tell you that the one thing that’s constantly on my mind nowadays is “don’t get laid off”.  Isn’t that stupid?  I remember when I first got laid off from my previous job earlier this year, I spoke to veterans in the IT industry and they’d smile and say “oh don’t worry, you get used to it”.  It’s the...

Finding that one true love: more thoughts about city life.

Toronto has a way of making you feel pretty alone and insignificant in the world.  Especially when you’re not ‘pretty’ or powerful.  I mean ‘pretty’ by metropolitan city standards, the plastic kind of pretty.  You probably know what I mean. I’m from Northern Ontario where looks carry so little weight.  People there want to know that they can trust you.  They care more about whether or not you’re contributing  to the community or whether or not you’re a good person.  Besides, if you have fake boobs, the entire village will know about it. ...

Sigh. My crush on Toronto has just gotten stronger. I’m back in the capital and I can’t help but reminisce of the times I spent in the big city. G20: an interview with Sergeant Mark Hayes

Posted on Jul 9, 2010 in Media, Politics | 0 comments

After documenting the G20 policing protest in Ottawa last week, I read this article in the Citizen.  After reading that, I thought ‘hey, I would have loved to have spoken with a police officer’.  My way of thinking is that you won’t find out anything if you don’t at least try to ask for it.  So I sent off a letter to the Ottawa Police and I was pleasantly surprised to get a letter from them confirming that they’ve forwarded my request to Sgt Hayes.  And then, he called me.  We discussed the process a bit, he confirmed that he got the green light from his...

More video footage of the G20 rally in Ottawa

Posted on Jul 1, 2010 in Media, Politics | 0 comments

I’ve found some time to edit and put together another video of the rally held in Ottawa against the G20 Policing.  The evidence of police brutality and abuse is simply overwhelming.  And I think that public opinion about the role of the police during the protests in Toronto is changing from “they were just doing their job” to “… this is atrocious!”. Here’s a video that was recently shared by a commenter on my previous article.  The last minute is especially shocking. And here is my final video on the rally against the policing tactics used during...
