…of the day: don’t take thing too seriously

I was reading parts of a book that I bought for someone – I can’t share too many details because I’ve yet to give it to them, but there are a few tips in there about aging and what will make us grow old and miserable far too soon.  One of them is to not take life, and especially work, too seriously.  I see it all the time: people who become intense preachers of their company’s products or services without knowing what else is happening in their market, people who work until 2am because they believe there’s virtue to be found in being a workaholic, people who do...

…of the day: Where Art Thou Wisdom?

Posted on May 2, 2011 in ... of the day, Work | 0 comments

I couldn’t sleep the other night so I loaded up my TED iPad app and watched a talk on our loss of wisdom. It was so good that I just had to share it with everyone. It’s Election Day in Canada today and the timing couldn’t be better to post a talk on the subject of virtue and wisdom and being reasonable. Have you noticed that sometimes, dumb rules are made? I’ve spent the past few days drafting up a blog article about my take on 2010.  I haven’t been able to write the perfect blog post about it yet.  Draft after draft after draft… and wondering if I should even write about it at all.  I should.  It’s the best way to move on. I think that one of the reasons why it’s so hard to write about this past year is because it was so… bizarre.  It was the most monumental year of my life so far.  I can’t remember a time when I suffered so much AND celebrated so much success all in one year.  There’s...

Once upon a scattered brain…

What will I write about today? There’s been no shortage of interesting events in my life.  I’ve read a lot of interesting articles, too.  I could talk about them, but I don’t feel like it. Instead, I’d rather tell you that the one thing that’s constantly on my mind nowadays is “don’t get laid off”.  Isn’t that stupid?  I remember when I first got laid off from my previous job earlier this year, I spoke to veterans in the IT industry and they’d smile and say “oh don’t worry, you get used to it”.  It’s the...
